Alberto di Giussano

En réponse à la construction par la France de croiseurs légers modernes et de grands destroyers, les Italiens conçurent des croiseurs portant des noms de condottieri de la Renaissance. Le premier mis sur cale fut l’Alberto di Giussano, en 1928. Il servit en Méditerranée, participa à la guerre d’Espagne et, au début de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, à la bataille de Punta Stilo. Il mouilla des champs de mines et escorta des convois. En 1941, alors qu’il transportait de l’essence vers l’Afrique du Nord, il fut intercepté par des destroyers britanniques et coulé par des torpilles.
